Hey Guys!
Looking for some guidance...I got a speeding ticket about a month ago in Boulder, Colorado (off of Table Mesa Rd for those familiar with the area). That happened in my old Wrangler (out of all cars I’ve owned, the slowest), and at a time in which I actually had no clue I was speeding (which is a rarity).
I was caught doing 54 in a 40 by a motorcycle lady cop as I was pacing a a Toyota Sienna.
I was given no mercy, no cuts, nothing - and it just so happens to be a $150 (whatever) 4-POINT (HOLY $HIT) ticket.
It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me...4 points for 14 over? I could have done a whole lot worse.
My driving record: Spotless. I’ve gotten a ticket in New York before but I won the case without any points/fees/etc over 2 years ago.
Interaction with the officer: Great. She didn’t talk much but I was very pleasant, and we both had a laugh in the end.
I’m obviously fighting it...but how should I go about doing so?
Here’s a pink Escalade Stretch for your time...

About 7 years ago I got a speeding ticket in New York, didn’t find a way to fight it but did a defensive driver course and got it reduced to a non moving infraction.

I can tell you only from my experience in VA which was last month lol. I got nabbed at 1am (so nobody was on the road) doing 74 in a 55 (19 over). It was $180 and 4 points. Cop used LiDAR so as long has he did his calibrations before and after shift, there wasn’t much for me to do. I showed up to court. Saw that the Judge gave you the option of not guilty/guilty (was going to plead no contest) and that for the ones before me that had clean records, he was basically handing out driving school like candy. Pleaded not guilty, then the cop stated this case, judge asked me if I would like to add anything, I said no. Cop handed him my driving record, and was offered driving school in exchange for dismissing the ticket. Pretty painless and in/out in 20 min. Not sure its that simple elsewhere but who knows.

When I got pulled over in NY, I was caught doing 23 over in the middle of the night in a snow storm. I was overseas for a few months for work and got out of it because my court date (which was postponed 17 Months) happened when the officer no longer worked in the department. #luck

Lucky! Cop showed up to my hearing and remembered me (it happens when you drive a straight piped car with autocross numbers painted on the side lol) Thankfully I had a clean driving record.

you did the first bit right, be polite and courteous and not a minority.
basically keep that up, communicate to the prosecutor and officer, delay the date if possible. Ask for a reduction etc.
I’ve only fought one ticket and it was Australia so probably not a whole lot of help, but I got a 6 month ban (it was definitely not my first time getting caught) reduced to a 5 x 2hr night course about the dangers of speeding.
Haven’t been caught in the 8 years since. hoping to keep it that way.

for the last ticket i got here in CO, on the morning i showed up to local town hall court, the clerk offered me less points and less fine just to plead while checking in.
i would call the clerk for Boulder City court and just ask them who you should talk to before your court date. maybe the people’s republic of boulder does it in a similar way.

Sometimes you can contact the DA and plea bargain with them, you may have to pay double the fine but it will be reduced to a non moving violation, it may include a drivers course. I’ve done it before but it was a LONG time ago, like 20 years ago. It was also not in CO. It will cost you about the same as the fine + a lawyer and net you the same outcome. I was not eligible for diversion the last time I tried. Still got the fines reduced and it reduced to a non moving violation.
